Apple Blocks Uniswap’s Crypto Wallet

Big tech giant Apple already has a difficult relationship with the crypto industry, which could get worse due to the recent decision. The company behind developing the Ethereum-based decentralized exchange, Uniswap Labs, announced a mobile wallet.

The company’s Twitter handle revealed that the new product is an independent and open-source custodian. The mobile wallet launched for iOS devices as a limited initial release. Uniswap Labs states: “We bring the power of Uniswap to your pocket.”

Apple’s Feud With The Crypto Industry Intensifies

The new Uniswap wallet is compatible with Ethereum, Polygon, Optimism, and Arbitrum second layer scalable solutions. The wallet will allow users to control their assets and transact with any token in the ERC-20 format.

In addition, users will have access to non-fungible tokens (NFT), follow other wallets to track activity, discover new tokens, and more. On the company’s decision to launch the product as a limited initial release, Uniswap Labs said:

So why a limited early release from a team committed to accessing it for anyone? Simply put, Apple won’t give us the green light to launch, and we don’t know why. We shipped our mobile app a few months ago—and even though we’re 100% compliant with the specification, we’re still stuck in limbo.

In that sense, this version of the product is part of the strategy to provide the first iteration of the wallet while companies and users “wait together at Apple.” According to the rules of the big tech giant, the wallet will allow 10,000 people to access the product.

In an official post, the crypto company added:

instead of waiting alone, we thought it would be more fun to wait together, with several thousand Testflight users. That means it functions the same, is safe to use, and can be updated to the App Store version after Apple approves it. We love Apple products – that’s why we created a wallet for iOS. But this experience has reminded us why we should build open and accessible technologies in the first place.

More announcements are coming

The crypto company will show early access to mobile wallets at the Ethereum Denver event. Nearby users can stop by the company’s booth to receive one of these accesses on their social media channels.

In addition, the crypto company claims that it will make further announcements after Apple removes its products. They conclude:

We have many exciting features in store. But we can’t ship everything until Apple gives us the green light. Follow us on Twitter to get the TestFlight access link and wallet download.
