President of SenateAhmad Lawan said after casting the vote that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will win no less than 28 states.
“We control the National Assembly. We have won the President. We will win no less than 28 countries at the end of this election,” said Mr. Lawan.
The Senate President made the statement in response to questions from journalists at the Katuzu ward polling unit in Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State where he voted during the Governorship and State Council elections.
The APC currently controls 21 of the 36 states and won outright in 12 states during the last Presidential election.
Mr. Lawan said APC and the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari also the ninth National Assembly deserves some credit for the improvements seen in the state’s electoral process.
He said: “APC and the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari deserve credit, that we have allowed the process to be fully determined by INEC guidelines and regulations. So that we do not use the incumbency factor to prevent other political parties or the opposition from winning in areas that are strong APC enclaves .
“The ninth National Assembly also deserves credit for passing laws that made our electoral process better.
“I still have room for improvement but kudos to the Ninth National Assembly for producing an Electoral Law that gives a greater role to technology in deciding and influencing the results of elections than some kind of fraud.”

Commenting on the election process on Saturday, the Opposition Senate President said that “it is good that BVAS is working here. I have not heard any reports of failure of the process anywhere in my Local Government so far.
