Plateau State gubernatorial candidate from All Congress Progressives (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has rejected the results of the just concluded governorship election in the state.
The state gathering official for the governorship election, Idris Amali, a professor, on Monday announced Kaleb Mutfuwang of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as the winner of Saturday’s poll.
According to the returning officer, Mr. Mutfuwang polled 525,299 to defeat Mr. Yilwatda, his closest rival, who polled 481,370.
While addressing his supporters in Jos, the Plateau State capital, Mr. Yilwatda accused the PDP of rigging the elections in some areas, vowing to challenge the results of the polls in court.
He said, “We are strong and sincere in voting. We are not rigged anywhere. In two LGAs, they gave a difference of more than 100 thousand votes. We know it is rigged.
“We recorded a low voter turnout, but the vote increased by more than 30 percent. How can a low voter turnout be a high voter turnout? We will collect our mandate. I am comfortable. I am strong.

We are sincere in our hearts.
“I ask all of you to be strong and persevere. Don’t rush. Stay with me. We haven’t lost yet. Do not fight or insult others,” he said.

But speaking to PREMIUM TIMES, the PDP collecting agent in the state, Gyang Pam, denied the allegations of fraud leveled by the APC against the party and described the election as credible.
“This election is credible and fair. I have to commend the collection officer. People of Plateau State have said. He trusts the PDP and will see a good PDP will do,” Mr. Pam said on Tuesday.
