Otto Wallin is still in contention to secure his next fight with Anthony Joshua.
Australian heavyweight Demsey McKean revealed to Sky Sports that he is in talks to fight the former heavyweight champion.
However, Wallin, a Swedish heavyweight who only lost to Tyson Fury, insists Joshua will have to cut him next.
Joshua has suffered two consecutive defeats against Oleksandr Usyk, who now holds the WBO, WBA and IBF world titles that AJ once held.
Wallin’s promoter Dmitry Salita maintains that Joshua should return against a credible opponent.
“We will see how serious Joshua is about getting back to the elite heavyweight level with the level of opponents he chooses. He can beat the likes of McKean with great fashion training,” Salita said. Sky Sports.
“So fighting with such an opponent will not prove anything as an elite boxer and will not see any real improvement from the new trainer.
“Joshua has been linked to a lot of big names. Is it for real? I don’t know. Not if he’s fighting nameless with a shiny record.”
Salita shares how Deontay Wilder bounced back from his third loss to Tyson Fury. Wilder had a torrid fight with Fury in 2021, then defeated Robert Helenius in his next bout and won by knockout last October.
“After Wilder lost to Fury, he fought the 10 best, world-rated, legitimate heavyweights. And now he is playing to fight the best, based on the improvement with the new trainer Malik Scott. The work that Malik did with Wilder and he sure to fight a serious fighter after that defeat,” said Salita.
Wallin is available to box Joshua in the rematch.
“Otto is willing and ready to come to England on April 1st to fight Anthony Joshua. It’s going to be a great fight!” his promoter stated.
“Otto is interested in fighting Joshua and this is a fight that seems to make sense especially if Fury fights Usyk in March. Otto believes he will beat Joshua and thus deserves Fury’s rematch.
“Even if it’s not Otto, the level of the enemy will tell us where Joshua is now,” concluded Salita.
“Joshua is a very accomplished fighter and one of the best heavyweights of this generation. As a fan if he still gets it, I would love to see him fight a big fight.”
