Andy Cohen hints at the “tiresome” moments in the franchise, what “titillated” people at the beginning, and the address of ‘housewives’ who told people to show “destroy” that “life.
At Watch What Happens Live The host also discussed “cancel the culture,” what he would do if everything got “torn away,” and why he decided to have a second child.
In an interview with New Yorkers, Andy hinted at “tiresome” moments regarding the franchise. “[I’m] pretty involved with still, believe it or not. There are stressful moments, but I’m not bored in total,” he said. “I don’t believe it’s still there, without an end – the franchise and how many.”
At the beginning of the franchise, one thing that “titillated” people is “sexuality” in it The Real Housewives of Orange County. “I haven’t seen it on a reality show,” he said. “Of course, in ‘The Real World’ it’s young girls hooking up or whatever, but here, like, milfs with huge breasts… No show has given a platform to women over fifty in this way, in terms of express their sexuality and who they are and start over in life and figure things out.
When asked when he knew the franchise was going to be a hit, Andy replied, “Season 2 of ‘Orange County.’ Before starting shooting, Jean [Keough] to the producer she asked for a divorce. And I was, like, clutching my pearls. ‘Oh, no, Jeana is getting divorced. That’s my friend!’ When together they say, “Wait a minute: Jeana is going to get divorced, and we’re going to start filming. So, this is like a story: What are her friends thinking, and are they going to date?'”
Andy also suggested some ‘Housewives’ to her, “It’s ruined my life.”
“Yes, of course. People have said, ‘I think this is wrong. It was not a positive experience for me.’ And people say, ‘This saved my marriage,’ or ‘I wouldn’t have dared to leave my husband if I didn’t have the strength that I now feel from this platform and the love of the people watching,’ or ‘I wouldn’t know that I was there in bad marriages,’ or ‘I’m never going to meet my husband now,'” the star said.
He then touched on “repeating the culture,” and felt he needed to “remember” what he said.
“The truth is, some nights I left the show, and I thought, You really seem pervy tonight on the show. And I had to text my executive producer … and it was, like, ‘What did I say, what did I say?'” shared Andy. “Because now, you know, I’m in my fifties, I’ve got gray hair, and now I’m a father, so it doesn’t land the same way. And he will always be honest; he would say, ‘That’s good.’ Or he would say, ‘Actually, I was a little skeeved out.’ And I would be, like, ‘Oh, my God.'”
Andy also told us what he would do if it all “took off”.
“I thought, OK, well, if Housewives goes away, and if the talk show goes away, I have radio, and if radio goes away, I’m going to have a full-time job of having a book press and writing books. and raising my kids. And you know what? It’s going to be an incredible project,” he said.
Talking about his children, the producer revealed why he chose to have a second child.
“I did it for [my oldest child] Ben,” said the 54-year-old, “because I’m old, and I’m a single father, and I want them to feel like they have a family. And if anything, God never happens to me, I don’t want to leave him. So he and his sister will always have each other.”
