Andre Ayew misses a late penalty as Forest lose at Spurs

Ghana captain Andre Ayew missed the chance to score his first goal for Nottingham Forest as he failed to convert a late penalty in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur.

It was the second penalty in a row Ayew missed after a crucial crash at the World Cup against Uruguay saw Ghana eliminated from the group stage.

Harry Kane opened the scoring for Spurs with a header from Pedro Porro’s cross before scoring his 20th league goal of the season from the penalty spot following Joe Worrall’s foul on Richarlison.

Despite Richarlison having a goal disallowed for offside, Son Heung-min doubled Spurs’ lead by heading the Brazilian’s cross into the bottom corner. Worrall pulled a goal back for Forest with a powerful header, but it wasn’t enough to get anything out of the match.

Forest’s defeat was compounded by Fraser Forster’s late penalty save, denying Andre Ayew a goal and a consolation for his team.

The result leaves Forest in 14th place, with their cushion on the bottom three reduced to just three points.
