The ANC in Limpopo plans to launch Alpheus Tulare, the former mayor for Lephalale municipality in Waterberg, this week.
The residents were reliably informed that the party’s provincial executive committee (PEC) decided to fire Tulare during a meeting planned for this week.
Thulare was accused of not complying with the PEC’s instructions for five months.
In September last year, the PEC ordered him to step down as mayor of the troubled Lephalale municipality in an effort to pave the way for the election and appointment of ANC member and councillor, Aaron Mokgehle.
Thulare ‘opposed’ PEC
The party’s orders were to be followed immediately, but the former mayor refused to step down and chose to take the PEC to court for unfair treatment.
“And this argument, the ANC decided to charge him. He was placed before the party’s disciplinary hearing in December, where he was found guilty. a source from the PEC told The Citizen yesterday.
“Thulare is accused of being undisciplined, divisive, disobedient and ignoring ANC orders,” said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media on the matter.
“PEC’s plan is to use this case as a mirror for those who are arrogant and undisciplined. You cannot act as if the ANC is your own house. Nothing is bigger than the ANC. We should all be allowed to lead and be led. Anyone who acts otherwise should be made to face the music,” the source added.

Adjournment of appeal
The insider, who also asked not to be named, confirmed that the PEC plans to fire Thulare during a meeting to be held this week.
According to the party, his sacking will act as a deterrent to offenders as “no one shows the ANC the middle finger and gets away with it”.
Yesterday, Thulare insisted that he was convicted in the trial. “My membership was suspended for five years, three reserved. That means I will only serve two years of sanctions.
“But I have since appealed the decision with the ANC’s national disciplinary committee.
Contacted for comment, PEC spokesperson Jimmy Machaka said the matter had not been taken into account.
