We are now getting many reports of Tory MPs announcing they will not stand for re-election in the general election.
According to the House of Commons library, the total is now 44 with the total edging up all time. The current total for all parties is 69.
Clearly, many MPs can read how the polls went against the Tories compared to the party’s 12% GB lead at the last election. It didn’t take long to figure out that those with a five-figure majority might not be safe. Also there is a possibility that he will be in opposition with everything that exists.
The problem with some MPs not deciding to do so is that the Tories will lose the benefit of the incumbency bonus thus making the Tory challenge more difficult.
