Here are eight plots that Trump used to steal the election:

November 2020:

December and January 2020

• Ask Congress to cancel the vote

• Ask the Department of Justice to intervene in the voting process

As each plot failed, Trump, his lawyers, and allies hatched another plot to overturn the election. The lawsuit is the first chapter of the coup attempt. Trump claimed rampant fraud occurred but his legal team offered no evidence. The claim was thrown out of court and within 1 month part of the coup attempt was over. Next in play is the fraudulent voter scheme promoted by Trump cabinet member Rick Perry. The scheme involved getting Trump supporters to turn out to be voters in swing states where Trump lost. This happens between the date of election results in November and the date of certification of electoral college results. Trump and his allies have publicly announced that alternative voters are in place and that the vote will be sent to Congress. Trump will then be declared the winner. The plot was ridiculous, clearly illegal and a failure. The plot is still under investigation by the special counsel. Trump and many of his surrogates face the potential for criminal charges for their actions.

Next came a pressure campaign for states to declare election fraud and declare Trump the winner. Despite the pressure, country after country defended the legitimacy of the execution of the electoral protocol and adherence to the law. The clearest example of Trump’s attempt to steal an election at the state level was the phone call he made to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Rathensberger when he asked him to “get me 11,780,000 more votes than I need to win.” In his summary, Melber said “authorizing a politician to overturn a vote is the very definition of a coup.”

A desperate Trump went to a military plot to seize the voting machines and delegitimize the voter results.
