This is the generation! American Dreamsfan favorite drama starring Brittany Snow in her breakout role – together Vanessa Lengies, Will Estes, Sarah Ramos and more – it may have been canceled in 2005, but the legacy lives on.
The NBC series, which ran for three seasons and aired more than 60 episodes, is set in 1960s Philadelphia and centers around the traditional Pryor family as the cultural landscape quickly shifts around them. Rock n’ roll and pop music dominated the scene amid a backdrop of growing racial tensions and the Vietnam War, all of which had a profound effect on the family of six: father Jack (Tom Verica), Helen’s mother (Gail O’Grady), son of JJ (Estes) and Will (ethane vapor) and daughter Meg (Snow) and Patty (Ramos).
As the main character Snow and her best friend, Roxanne (Lengies), dance at a live music show American Bandstandthey together deal with Roman woes, Meg’s increased involvement in social justice causes and JJ’s sister’s draft for Vietnam – a war she vehemently opposes.
In 2013, more than 10 years after the premiere of American Dreams, the cast met again at ATX Television in a panel that delved into the memories of the filming – and where the characters will be today. An alternate ending to the series was even aired for the audience, which saw (spoiler!) Meg and her family reunited three years after she left Philly for California in the series finale.
Taking place in the summer of 1969, the alternate conclusion suggests that Meg is still close to Sam (Arlen Escarpetta) and the two were on their way to Woodstock together. Roxanne and her boyfriend, Luke (Jamie Elman), still going strong and living in New York. Patty leaves for college at the prestigious Radcliffe, and Meg sees her nephew – JJ’s son with his wife, Beth (Rachel Boston) – who identified him from a photograph. After years of estrangement from her parents, she reconciles with her daughter when the episode ends.

In September 2021, Ramos and Snow reenacted scenes from Sweet Home Alabamawhich in John Tucker Must Die stars are depicted Reese Witherspoon‘s character, Melanie, and so on Parents alum starred as Melanie Lynskeycharacter, Lurlyn.
