Amaliba slammed the Special Prosecutor on the Airbus bribery case
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) accused the Special Prosecutor of subtly using the Airbus case to hunt some personalities in the party.
Some members of the NDC have asserted that the current government is in bed with the Office of the Special Prosecutor and is deliberately trying to use the case to settle some scores through some obscure manipulation.
The case involving some personalities in the former NDC government was related to the purchase of some military aircraft for the Ghana Armed Forces in 2011 and some of them have been investigated since the time of the former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu. .
Mr. Amidu accused former president John Dramani Mahama as the 1st Government Official named in the report allegedly benefiting from bribes in the aircraft procurement process.
Accusing former president Mahama, Mr. Amidu in 2020 wrote that: “This office has established the identity of the 1st elected Government official as former President John Dramani Mahama whose brother Samuel Adam Foster is also known as Samuel Adam Mahama. The only reason the former President was not invited for interrogation (despite all the threats from some followers and lawyers) is the fact that he got insurance as the presidential candidate of the other largest political party in Ghana and prudence dictates that the interrogation be held in abeyance during this election season.
The case seems to have gone down until the current Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng in his half-yearly report stated that the Airbus case is part of more than 120 cases under investigation.
But in an interview with Citi NewsThe director of Legal Affairs of the NDC, Abraham Amaliba stated that the investigation should be completed now and more admitting the delay to political targeting.
He said British authorities have closed a special office set up to investigate and prosecute the case and said his Ghanaian counterpart should also complete the investigation.
“The matter that started in England has been stopped and it has ended in England and the special office that handles the matter has closed the docket and if you are in Ghana and you do not take leave in line with your counterpart in the country. England and you said, you will continue investigation, then you’re bound to hit a brick wall and to me that should be an issue for the Special Prosecutor to deal with.
