At All Progressive Congress (APC) in River State has refuted reports that the comments described Nigeria’s president-elect, Tinubu ball as drug baron to the former Minister of Transport, Chibuike Amaechi.
The spokesman of the party in the state, Darlington Nwauju, who issued the denial in a statement on Friday, said Mr. Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and leader of the party in the state, never linked Mr. Tinubu to drug trafficking within or outside the state. .
Mr. Nwauju was reacting to a report published on Facebook by the news media – Core Dailymail.
News media reported that Mr. Amaechi said that Mr. Tinubu would have been disqualified for drug trafficking if the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had conducted a proper investigation.
Denying the report, Mr. Nwauju said the “claptraps are the work of the fifth columnist” who said they did not wish the former minister well. He added that the former Rivers governor “has no qualms with the president-elect.”
“We have discovered a hatchet job carried out by the faceless online media giving credit to our leader, the former Minister of Transport, Mr. Amaechi, with comments questioning the role of APC and INEC in the screening/qualification of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed. Tinubu.
“We want to make it very clear that our leaders do not make such diabolical comments in private or public to question the qualifications of the President-elect or to link him to drug trafficking within or outside Nigeria.
“We want to warn the purveyors of fake news about the bad consequences of these bad and baseless rumors. We call on the security agencies to go after these elements of hatred and division, in order to purify the honorable profession of journalism,” he said.
Mr. Amaechi has kicked off the appointment of Mahmood Yakubu as INEC chairman in an interview he gave journalists shortly after casting his vote during the March 18 governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
The former minister, who voted in the polling unit in Ubima, Ward 8 Unit 14, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state, said Mr. Yakubu should have been removed for reasons nominated by members of Mr. Tinubu’s camp.

The former minister described the commission under Mr. Yakubu as “useless,” according to Sahara Reporters.
Mr. Nwauju who recalled the statement made by Mr. Amaechi on election day said the former minister spoke in the light of the world and “his words were pure and clear.”
“Anyone who wants to accuse the president-elect is free to do so, but they should not hide it from the former minister,” Mr. Nwauju said.
