Allen Liwag leaves EAC Generals, eyes transfer to another NCAA team

MANILA, Philippines—Incoming junior Allen Liwag left Emilio Aguinaldo College with a surprise last night.

Liwag’s sports agency, EOG Sports Management, announced the news on its Facebook page.

After a promising rookie year in Season 97, the big man is considered Gilas Pilipinas to be in the talent pool.

Liwag was not included in the Philippines’ final lineup for the Fiba Asia Qualifiers but his numbers continued to improve in NCAA Season 98.

The 20-year-old averaged 10.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 0.93 blocks, and 0.53 steals per game for the Generals on a 3-15 run.

The 6-foot-6 forward was one of coach Oliver Sound’s “twin towers” for Season 99 along with Nat Cosejo. Liwag even became a headache in the middle of the season.

“We can’t stop Liwag because he is good, but he (San Sebastian) is working with us. The good thing about it is that they work hard to stop him and he is the key for EAC,” said former Golden Stags coach Egay Macaraya in the October match against EAC .

According to some reports, Liwag is currently considering options to play for San Beda or College of St. Benilde.

Either way, both moves will be greeted by the NCAA with a one-year residency.

The only move they couldn’t make was a move to the UAAP as they had already played in the MPBL semi-professional league before their rookie year in Season 97.

The Generals appear to be relying heavily on Cosejo next season as he averages 13.3 markers and 6.4 boards per outing. He was also named MVP of the All-Star game last season.

Playmakers King Gurtiza and Ralph Robin can also produce EAC.

He was suspended from school at the end of the season, but Bunyi assured him in the team’s final game that he would not be “totally out” and “could be back” in the Generals lineup.
