Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Won’t Rule Out Possible 2028 Run

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) seemed to be leaving the door very open to the possibility of a 2028 presidential run during a town hall in upstate New York over the weekend.

The progressive firebrand appeared to send the strongest signal yet about her national ambitions while speaking alongside fellow New York Democrat Rep. Paul Tonko in Plattsburgh on Sunday.

Enthusiasm for the Democrats appeared to be at a fever pitch at the event, which was hosted in the district of moderate Republican-turned-MAGA devotee Rep. Elise Stefanik.

“I want to know if you’re going to run for president,” Finnegan said.

While Ocasio-Cortez didn’t confirm any plans, she didn’t outright dismiss the idea either.

Hinting at just how seriously she may be weighing the possibility, she said, “Finnegan, this is a crazy time. I don’t know. We’ll see. But I know with support from people like you, it makes me feel like I can do anything.”

While Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has long been a guiding force for the Democratic Party’s progressive movement, he’s all but confirmed he won’t be mounting another presidential campaign in 2028.

Now, many in the political world see Ocasio-Cortez as his natural heir and a leading contender to shape the party’s leftward future.

People within the 35-year-old’s inner orbit have revealed that while she’s not actively exploring a run, she isn’t ruling it out either.

As an unnamed source close to the Ocasio-Cortez camp told Politico in March, “She’s more not focused on running for president than she is uninterested in it.”
