Akufo-Addo has a duty to comment on the killing of soldiers and brutality – Agalga
Builsa North Member of Parliament James Agalga has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for not commenting on the military brutality in Ashaiman and also the killing of soldiers.
He said as the Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the President has a duty to comment on the situation.
Contributing to the debate in Parliament on Tuesday, March 14 on the state of the nation address given by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Mr. Agalga said “The President has an obligation to speak about Ashaiman as Commander-In-Chief because rights have been violated, including the killing of soldiers. Mr. President just did not find a place during the one and a half hour post to at least, to comfort the families of the soldiers who died and also to express regret about the violation of the rights of the people of Ashaiman.
Police made several arrests following the killing of Sherrif in Ashaiman on Saturday, March 4.
The suspects, Safianu Musah, alias Dayorgu, Ibrahim Abdul Rakib, Samuel Tetteh, alias Wiper, Abubakar Sadick, alias Birdman, Yussif Mohammed and Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim were arrested between Thursday, March 9 and Sunday, March 12.
They were arrested at various locations in and around Ashaiman, according to a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service.
The arrests followed a week-long ongoing intelligence operation.
Police detailed the events in a statement issued on Sunday, March 12:
“On March 4, 2023, the Police received information that an adult male was found dead at Ashiaman Taifa in the Greater Accra Region.
“A police team went to the spot and confirmed the incident.
“The police immediately began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death. The officers closed the scene and called a specialist Police Crime Squad team to process the scene for forensic analysis.
“The crime scene team recovered several items, including a knife with blood stains and a backpack. In the backpack, the Police found 1 Samsung tablet, 1 Apple laptop, 1 military uniform with the name tag “Imoro”, 8 other clothes, as well as a Ghana card and Health Insurance in the name of Imoro Sherrif.
“Judging from the contents of the backpack, the police suspect that the victim may be a soldier, and in line with the Police’s standard operating procedure for dealing with institutional-based victims, the Military has been informed of the incident and some military personnel have come to identify the deceased to the Police as Imoro Sheriff, a soldier .
“The body of the deceased was then taken to the hospital for preservation and autopsy.
“As part of the investigation, intelligence operations were immediately launched in Ashiaman and other strategic locations to follow all relevant leads in the case.”
After investigation, all six suspects were arrested.
The police have assured the public, especially the family of the deceased, that all the suspects have been arrested and will be “arraigned in court on Monday, March 13, 2023”.
Six suspects arrested for their alleged involvement in the killing of Sheriff Imoro have been denied bail by the Ashaiman Circuit Court.
He was denied bail on Monday, March 13 after Prosecutor Supt. Sylvester Asare told the court that granting bail would affect the investigation.
