The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Yussif told the media that: “We will call the President on Monday. Once we do, the plan that the family has submitted before the Ministry and the GFA will be made public as it is subject to the president’s confirmation. A funeral planning committee has also been formed to ensure the funeral which is appropriate.
The government has promised to stand by the family by giving Atsu a befitting funeral.
Last Friday, discussions were concluded between Atsu’s family, representatives of the Ghana Football Association, and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif before the footballer’s last burial ceremony.
After the 7.8 magnitude disaster, Christian Atsu was found dead under the rubble of his home in Hatay province, Turkey.
His body was later brought to Ghana with government representatives, members of the football community, colleagues, supporters, and Ghanaians, publicly offering condolences to the bereaved family.
On March 4, 2023, the late footballer will be remembered with a week-long memorial observance at Adjiringanor in Accra.
