“It is very sad to know that in 8 years, they have destroyed the entire financial sector including confidence in government securities!! Something that took us 60 years to build,” Bentil is crying in a tweet.
The concern follows the announcement by the Securities and Exchange Commission that Zenith Bank Ghana has voluntarily ceased its securities and capital markets operations.
“Zenith Bank Ghana Limited voluntarily ceases to operate as Trustee. Although Zenith Bank Ghana Limited voluntarily ceases to serve as Trustee for the Unit Trust Scheme in 2022,” The SEC said in a statement.
But the statement added that the Bank continues to hold a Custodian license issued by the SEC under the Securities Industry Act, 2016 (Act 929) and remains an active operator in the Ghana Securities market and banking industry.
The previous notice issued by the SEC on Wednesday, January 19, 2023, has many people worried, with many speculating that the once vibrant bank may be on the verge of folding.
The commission was forced to issue another statement to clarify the content of the previous notice to allay the fears of the general public.
