Akufo-Addo Tetes Ofori-Atta
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has replaced the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta as interim minister of the Ministry of Trade.
Minister of Land and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor.
Mr. Jinapor will assume responsibility for the Ministry of Trade and Industry from Monday 16 January 2023 pending the appointment of a substantive replacement for outgoing Minister Alan Kyerematen.
Alan is expected to leave office on Monday to pursue his political ambitions.
This was announced by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin in a statement on Friday, January 13.
President Akufo-Addo previously assigned the Minister of Finance, to be a temporary Minister in the Ministry until there is an important appointment.
It is not clear why he was removed as a temporary Minister but some suspect that the Finance minister joined the resignation team.
Alan Kyerematen resigned from the Ministry to pave the way for him to focus on his efforts to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2024 general elections as the party’s Flag Bearer.
Alan Kyeremanten has been one of the longest-serving Ministers in the Akufo-Addo-led government, who led the Ministry from 2017 until his resignation.
He also served in the same position under President John Agyekum Kufuor between 2003 and 2007.
An earlier statement issued by Eugene Arhin said “The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Friday, January 6, 2023, accepted the resignation of Mr. Alan Kyerematen as Minister of Trade and Industry.
“This is after Mr. Kyerematen, on Thursday, January 5, informed the President personally of his decision to resign, and then sent him a letter of resignation.
“President Akufo-Addo thanked Mr. Kyerematen for his service to the government and the country, and we wish him more in the future.
“The President has asked the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, to act as interim Minister in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, until substantial appointments are made.”
