As punishment continues to vandalize and burn the Akere Spare Parts Market in Lagos State by alleged political thugs, the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), has called on Ndigbo in Lagos to remain calm, strong and firm.
The President General of COSEYL, Goodluck Ibem, warned that if these cruel and rogue activities are not checked, Nigeria could descend into anarchy and lawlessness.
The group, however, commended the Labor Party (LP) Governorship Candidate, Architect Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour for donating the sum of N15m to help the affected traders and their families, so that they do not sleep hungry.
In a statement, yesterday, in Awka, COSEYL called on the Inspector General of Police, (IGP), Usman Baba, to take immediate action and arrest the criminals and ensure that they face the wrath of the law.
“An incident of this magnitude, if not handled properly will lead to anarchy and lawlessness. The police and other law enforcement agencies must protect the lives, property, and rights of citizens.
“We call on the Federal Government and the Lagos State government to ensure that the madness shown by these criminals is not repeated. Nigeria is one and we have rights and privileges wherever we live. We have one constitution that binds all Nigerians without regardless of tribe or religion.
He added: “It is unfortunate that innocent traders who are not politicians and have nothing to do with politics are always attacked without provocation.”
He noticed that there are Yoruba people in the southeast who do business without discrimination or attack.
