The AIG Public Leaders Program (PLP), offered by the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation and the Blavatnik School of Government of the University of Oxford, is an executive education program that offers potential African public servants the opportunity to acquire the skills needed to create a culture of excellence, effectiveness and integrity in organizations.

The PLP Class of 2022, which includes the first international participants from South Africa, consists of 52 civil servants, carefully selected from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Delivered through a combination of rigorous online and in-person classes, the program provides 52 graduates with the knowledge, tools and conceptual frameworks needed to address the challenges of public sector leadership in a fast-paced world.

After months of intense and demanding sessions, involving classroom discussions, simulations, practical exercises and capstone projects, the closing ceremony of the program was held on March 15, 2023, in Abuja.

In his welcome speech, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, stated that as part of his multi-billion naira commitment to facilitate the transformation of the public sector, the Foundation is committed to building a new generation public sector. leaders to drive change in various organizations.

According to him, the Foundation’s partnership with the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, is a means of ensuring that future public sector leaders have access to world-class training, which will provide them with the skills and knowledge they need to be effective. boss.

Congratulating him on his birthday, he gave advice to be able to use the learning gained from the program in various workplaces. He also urged the private sector to recognize the important role of the public sector in national development and encourage more support for public sector reforms.

In the main about ‘Public Sector Leadership in the Crisis’, Prof. Attahiru Jega noted that, in general, in the contemporary world, times of crisis are a challenge for everyone, especially those in leadership positions.

He said, while managing and/or resolving the crisis requires a certain set of leadership, character traits and thinking skills, many governments, including Nigeria, do not pay enough attention to the recruitment, training and mentoring of executive employees who can be good leaders.

Aig-Imoukhuede hopes that the activities of organizations, such as the AIG-Imoukhuede Foundation, will sensitize the government and start making them live up to their responsibilities.

The dignitaries present at the closing ceremony included the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. TD Mseleku; Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Access Corporation, Dr. Herbert Wigwe; Chairman, Access Bank Plc, ‘Dere Awosika; and Special Advisor to the President on the Economy, Office of the Vice President, Amb. Adeyemi Dipeolu.

There are also permanent secretaries and directors in various ministries and parastatals. A seven-week executive education program for African civil servants delivered via synchronous and asynchronous methods with two weeks of live teaching in Abuja.

Participants, all of whom are offered fully funded scholarships to participate in the program, are taught a variety of important leadership skills, conceptual frameworks and practical tools that will empower them to be more effective when leading departments and organizations through ever-increasing challenges.
