A woman who previously said Steven Tyler had illicit sexual relations with her when she was young is now suing the Aerosmith frontman for sexual assault, sexual battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The lawsuit brought by Julia Misley was filed Tuesday under a 2019 California law that gives adult victims of childhood sexual assault a three-year window to file lawsuits for decades-old assault cases. Saturday is the deadline to submit such claims.
Misley, 65, formerly known as Julia Holcomb, said in a statement that she wanted to seize “a new opportunity to take legal action against those who abused me when I was young.” The Associated Press is not naming sexual assault victims unless they identify themselves.
While the lawsuit did not name Tyler, Misley identified him by name in the statement, which was issued through the law firm of Jeff Anderson & Associates.
He also talked about his experiences with Tyler in previous interviews, and Tyler discussed his relationship with a teenage girl in two books, published in 2011 and 1997.

‘Sexual crime’ lawsuit
A representative for Tyler did not immediately return a request for comment Monday.
The lawsuit alleges Tyler “used his role, status, and power as a well-known musician and rock star to gain access to, groom, deceive, exploit, sexually assault,” Misley for three years. As a result, he suffered severe emotional pain as well as economic loss, the lawsuit said.
According to the lawsuit, some of the abuse occurred in Los Angeles County.
The lawsuit said Misley met Tyler in 1973 at one of his shows in Portland, Ore., and later invited him to Tyler’s hotel room, where he told her he was 16. Tyler must have been 25 or 26 at the time. He said he engaged in “various criminal sexual acts” against Misley.
He engaged in sexual acts with her after several more shows, and in 1974 she became his legal guardian so he could travel with her to her shows, according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit alleged Misley became pregnant in 1975 as a result of sex with Tyler, and later forced her to have an abortion.
Tyler further harmed Misley by publishing a memoir detailing parts of their relationship without her knowledge or consent, according to the lawsuit. Doing so subjected Misley to public attention and scrutiny, which retraumatized her and made it harder for her to heal, said the lawsuit.
Tyler’s memoir mentions a relationship
In Tyler’s 2011 memoir, he mentioned meeting his unnamed 16-year-old “girlfriend-to-be.” He wrote that he almost “took a teenage bride” and asked his parents to sign custody of him so he wouldn’t be arrested when he went on tour with him out of the country.
“By including Plaintiff’s name in the confession, he left readers and the public in no doubt as to Plaintiff’s identity,” the lawsuit says, noting that Misley faced a picture of his own face on the cover of a grocery store tabloid. book publishing.
Tyler’s relationship with a teenage girl was also referenced by several people in the Walk ThisAerosmith’s 1997 “autobiography” in oral history format.
The teenager was given the pseudonym “Diana Hall” and, at one point, was described as pregnant. Tyler said he was thinking about marriage, referring to abortion and calling it “a complicated situation around us.”
The lawsuit seeks monetary damages of an unspecified amount.
