The Director General of The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed has charged corps members participating in the 2023 general election to strictly adhere to the guidelines contained in the Electoral Act and remain neutral.
The DG also warned corps members against unauthorized travel, as he noted that travel at night not only increases the risk of accidents but also makes rescue difficult.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘A’ stream orientation course at the permanent orientation camp in Kaduna, he said the Corps members constitute the majority of ad hoc personnel who will be enlisted to conduct the training.
While urging the corps members to behave professionally, he said “the performance of your predecessors contributed to the credibility of the previous elections, and earned the NYSC awards from local and foreign observers. That is why I advise you all to carry out your election duties with a high sense of responsibility.
“You must ensure adherence to the guidelines contained in the Electoral Act and, above all, remain neutral during the exercise. When you are ready to participate in this important national task, I want to assure you that we have obtained the commitment of the Independent National Electoral Commission and the security agencies on the well-being and your safety before, during and after the election.
While warning the corps members not to travel at night which could put their lives at risk, the DG said that “traveling at night not only increases the risk of accidents but also makes it difficult to rescue. Therefore, it is advised to always slow down the journey from six pm and stay at NYSC Lodges, military barracks and other locations officially designated as safe.
“Furthermore, you must ride your vehicle only in approved motor parks to avoid falling into the hands of criminals.”
