The Adamawa State Police Command has warned politicians against involving police officers and other security agents into politics for better security ahead of the 2023 general elections.
This was in a statement by the spokesman of the state command, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, on Monday.
Nguroje noted that the command has engaged in tactical meetings and conferences with various stakeholders to build solid standard operating procedures and strategic action plans aimed at having a smooth electoral process for the upcoming elections.
He stated that the strategy is in line with the commitment of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, to clarify the democratic system and credible electoral process in the country.
Nguroje added that the command has also drafted a security template to be used in the context of the new Election law.
According to him, the Co-Chairman of the Inter-Agency Collaboration Committee on Electoral Security (ICCES) CP Sikiru Kayode Akande has engaged all the heads of operations of sister security agencies in the country, to deepen the initiative of inter-agency collaboration to ensure security. election process for elections.
Nguroje said the state police commissioner stressed the need to increase the gathering and sharing of actionable intelligence, coordinated operations, and the deployment of adequate personnel and resources.
“In the same vein, CP has advised police officers and other security actors to be neutral and warned politicians not to drag security agents into politicking as it ensures a level playing field for all,” Nguroje.
