MANILA, Philippines – Nine months since he left the position of head coach for Chery Tiggo, Aaron Velez was officially welcomed back by the team on Monday.

Crossovers announced that they have tapped the championship coach again to be the lead mentor for the squad in the return of the Premier Volleyball League in two weeks.

“An experienced coach returns to take the wheel and lead Chery Tiggo Crossovers back to the top,” the team’s announcement read.

Velez will replace Clarence Esteban, who took over in April last year, for the coaching gig.

Unlike the Velez era when Chery won the PVL Open Conference in 2021, the team was unable to win a championship under coach Esteban in nine months.

The Crossovers ranked eighth in the Open Conference this season while settling for fourth in the Reinforced Conference.

Velez will handle a revamped squad that recently acquired the talents of Seth Rodriguez, Ponggay Gaston and Bingle Landicho.
