Dollar General (DG) reports double-digit earnings growth for Q1 FY26

Dollar General Corporation (NYSE: DG) on Tuesday reported strong earnings growth for the first quarter of FY26 as comparable store sales increased 2% year-over-year.

The small-box discount retailer reported net income of $444.1 million or $2.0 per share for the first quarter, compared to $392 million or $1.78 per share in the corresponding quarter a year earlier. Earnings exceeded analysts’ estimates.

At $10.8 billion, Q1 net sales were up 3.4% year-over-year. It was driven mainly by positive sales contributions from new stores and growth in same-store sales, partially offset by the impact of store closures. Same-store sales grew 2%, reflecting increases of 1.4% in customer traffic and 0.5% in average transaction amount.

Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s chief executive officer, said, “Our topline results were highlighted by positive customer traffic and balanced category growth, while continued progress on our key initiatives drove another quarter of strong operating profit growth.”

Management declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.59 per share, payable on or before July 21, 2026, to shareholders of record on July 7, 2026.
