
No fewer than 90 teachers trained by the Institute of Education, University of Calabar, have been certified as professional teachers by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
Inducting the teachers on Friday in Calabar, Prof. Josiah Olusegun, Registrar/Chief Executive of TRCN, urged them to perform their duties professionally.
The registrar, who was represented by TCRN, Director of Operations, Dr Bimbo Okunola, urged them to change the narrative in the classrooms and positively impact society.
He said there will be sanctions for those who do not follow the rules and ethics of the profession.
Olusegun thanked the school for following the high premium for the council.
Vice Rector of UNICAL, Prof. Florence Obi, charged the inductees to be committed to teaching.
Represented by the Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the university, Prof. Eno Nta, Obi said that the university is committed to raising professionals in various disciplines.
“I congratulate you for your hard work, but more importantly, I ask for commitment from all of you.
“It’s not about paper qualifications, it’s about commitment to your profession.
“Be our ambassador. Don’t let us down. Go and burn and let the world know that good things are happening at the University of Calabar,” he said.
Obi expressed his gratitude to the institute and lecturers who have given their best to develop the inductees.
Prof. Paul Itari, Director of the Institute of Education, UNICAL, said that professional training of teachers will translate into quality education.
Itari describes induction as an important academic ritual that will initiate graduates into their chosen profession.
Speaking as a representative of the inductees, Miss Nene Williams-Amos, praised the university management and lecturers for good training.
