The waakye seller, known as Sisi Kuning, and several members of his family who ate the food were also hospitalized after suffering stomach ailments.
A pregnant woman and a lottery seller are some of the people who died after eating the popular Waakye.
The incident was so bad that Valley View Hospital, the nearest health facility was reportedly overwhelmed by the number of people being rushed to the treatment center and had to turn away some patients to seek help at other hospitals.
It is unclear what caused the poisoning.
The Waakye Yellow Sisi Joint has been closed down while the Oyibi Police and the Food and Drug Authority have launched an investigation into the incident.
