Governor of Ondo, Rotimi Akeredolusaid Elections have become very difficult to rig in Nigeria with the introduction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
The governor described BVAS as a laudable development in the state’s electoral process.
BVAS is a critical component of the 2022 Elections Act signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mr. Akeredolu said this in his office on Friday when he hosted the retired Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Rufus Akeju.
He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for using technology to strengthen the electoral process and strengthen confidence.
The governor, who insisted that technology has made rigging difficult, said the All Progressives Congress (APC) would always win every election.
He stated that APC is the most popular party in the country, adding that the party will always enjoy the support of the people through massive votes in the polls.
He said: “I am happy that it is getting harder and harder to influence INEC to rig elections. I have participated in so many elections and I keep telling people that elections are difficult to rig.

“Now it has become more difficult, because whether we like it or not, INEC has improved its work over time, and I want to congratulate you and the chairman for the good work you are doing.”
The governor also praised the retired REC, noting that there was no uncertain election during his time in the state.
He further suggested that INEC should find ways to increase the value of PVC apart from its use for voting, so as to attract them.
Earlier, the retired REC Mr. Akeju appreciated the Ondo State Government and all citizens of the state for their support and cooperation during his tenure.

“I thank God for our life as it seems to me since yesterday. I can say without a doubt in my mind that I have received maximum support from the State Government and all the citizens of this country”.

Present at the event was the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; Secretary to the State Government, Oladunni Odu; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale, among others.
As in other states of the federation, it is expected that BVAS will be commissioned by INEC to conduct presidential, national assembly and state assembly elections in the state. No gubernatorial elections will be held until 2024.
