Flag bearer of the Labor Party president, Peter Obihas promised to invest in the entertainment and creative industries to unite Nigeria and curb poverty if elected president.
Mr. Obi is considered one of the four strong contenders for the February 25 presidential election. Others in the race are Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party.
Mr. Obi, a guest at an Instagram live session hosted by renowned comedian, Ayo (AY) Makun Kamis, spoke about his vision for the entertainment industry.
The former governor of Anambra State said that young Nigerians are very entrepreneurial in business, science, technology, entertainment, and sports, which they want to invest.
Using the example of how sports can unite the country, Mr. Obi said it is important to invest in the country’s budding and creative entrepreneurs, because it will help to pull people out of poverty.
”Ask someone today; Brazil has used sports to pull its people out of poverty. The country has used entertainment to pull people out of poverty, and these are some of the things that unite the country. You can agree that Nigeria is not too divided in entertainment and sports venues.
So when we say we will secure and unite the country, we will support the region.
“So when we say we will secure and unite the country. This is an area that we will push. There are many ways we can use it to make the new Nigeria we envisage when we say the new Nigeria is possible. This is an area that needs to be addressed, an area to make new jobs,” he said.

Stemming the ‘Japanese’ phenomenon
The former governor noted that there is nothing that can be done to bring back those who left the country except with a well-organized country. This, he said, could be done by securing it.
According to him, people cannot continue to live in an unsafe environment.
“You can have people sit down and die if you don’t do the right thing. They have to go where they have to make a living and all because they have to live.
“To ask them to come back is to reverse the trend to ensure that things are safe, everything is working, they have a decent opportunity to earn a living,” Mr. Obi said.
