2023 election: Zamfara speaker Magarya loses re-election bid | The Guardian Nigeria News

The Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Nasiru Muazu Magarya, has lost to Bilyaminu Ismail of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Magarya, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), lost Zurmi West constituency in the re-election to the PDP candidate by 9,530 votes.

The returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Muddasir Moriki, announced on Sunday that Ismail got 11,213 votes.

“I am Muddasir Ismail, the commander of the DPD Zurmi Barat 2023 election that was held on March 18, 2023. This election was contested by the candidates with the following votes. Mu’azu Nasiru of APC got 9,530 votes and Isma’il Bilyaminu of PDP got 11,213 votes,” Moriki said.

“Therefore, Isma’il Bilyaminu from PDP, having met the legal requirements, has been declared elected.”

The deputy speaker of the house, Musa Bawa Yankuzo, and the deputy speaker of the house, Nasiru Lawal Bungudu, also lost to Bello Maza-Waje and Bashiru Dan-Meri of the PDP.
