The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of Saturday’s governorship election with 525,280 votes against his nearest rival, Sadique Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 432,272 votes.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed of the Federal University, Dutse, declared the current Governor, Mohammed the winner, after fulfilling all legal requirements.
The returning officer said that the total number of registered voters was 2,749,268 while the number of accredited voters was 1,058,381.
Prof Sabo said Bala Mohammed of PDP got 525,280 votes while Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar of APC got 432,272 votes. Senator Haliru Dauda Jika from NNPP scored 60,496 votes,
The number of valid votes was 1,034,379, of which 15,221 were rejected and the total number of votes was 1049,600.
Mohammed PDP won in 15 out of 20 Toro local councils; Tafawa Balewa, Ningi, Alkaleri, Dass, Ganjuwa, Zaki, Shira, Dambam, Itas/Gadau, Warji, Bogoro, Jama’are, and Kirfi while APC’s Abubakar won five LGAs of Katagum, Misau, Darazo, Gamawa and Giade.
