Prosecutors say that in February 2023, Vitalis was fired for theft and warned not to walk in the hospital.

He told the court that despite warnings from management, Vitalis continued to sneak into the yard with the help of Mubarak who was still working at the facility for criminal activities.

The prosecutor said that on the night of March 6, 2023, the deceased was on the morning shift and reported to work as a cashier on duty.

Chief Inspector Anane said that same evening, Mubarak called Vitalis on the phone to come to the place so that he could siphon diesel from the standby generator.

He said that after successfully siphoning the diesel, the two accused, then planned to steal the daily sales from the cash office.

The prosecutor said on March 7, 2023, at about 1:30 a.m., the deceased victim went out to use the bathroom in the Administrator’s Office.

He said Mubarak who was spying on the movement of the victim quickly called Vitalis to alert him and he (A2) followed the victim to the Administrator’s Office, grabbed him from behind and strangled him to death.

Prosecutors said Vitalis dragged the deceased’s lifeless body into the store room and locked the door.

He said Vitalis took the cash office key, opened the door, ransacked the office and stole GHc1,200.00 and the deceased’s mobile phone.

“The deceased was not found in the morning. The management and his family searched for him but he could not be found until he was reported to the Police as missing.

He said that on March 8, 2023, the Police arrived at the facility and during a thorough search of all the offices and rooms, the Police realized that the key to the warehouse could not be found so the door was forced open and the body of the victim was found in a state of decomposition.

Prosecutors said A1 fled after the crime while A2 was still at the post feigning innocence, but investigations led to his arrest at a hideout in Koforidua.

He said A1 during the investigation admitted to have conspired with A2 to kill the deceased to enable him to get access to the cash point to steal money.

The prosecution said A1 sold the deceased’s phone to Ebenezer Dzigbehlo in Medina for GHc150.00 and claimed to have given GHc1, 200.00 in cash to a friend for safekeeping. Prosecutors say the investigation is ongoing.
