One person was on Tuesday injured in a clash between the police and traders at the Alaba Rago market, in the Ojo area of Lagos State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the clashes started after police officers from the Okokomaiko Division stormed the market to carry out the arrest of the suspect.
It was reported that some traders were obstructing the officers from carrying out their official duties.
The fight eventually led to a brawl in which one person was injured.
The Spokesman, Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.
He said the police, who had gone to the market to arrest the suspect, were shot for retreating from the attack.
“The Okokomaiko Division Police today went to Alaba Rago market to arrest the suspect but were attacked by many traders.
“In an attempt to make a tactical retreat from the attack of the armed mob, one of the officers fired his weapon, killing one of the assailants.
“A detailed investigation has been initiated into the immediate and remote causes of the incident,” he said.
