An aide to Donald Trump contacted Trump’s son-in-law and senior White House adviser Jared Kushner about trademarking the phrase “Elections are rigged!” and “Save America PAC!” (exclamation mark apparently included) after Trump lost the 2020 election, according to an email Kushner provided to House committee members Jan. 6.
Trump aide Dan Scavino emailed Kushner about the issue on November 9, 2020 — long before the main problem with the presidential election was discovered. In the end, there was no evidence after the election irregularities.
“Hey Jared! POTUS wants to trademark/own the following rights, I don’t know who to look at – or ask… I don’t know who to do,” Scavino said in an email, according to a transcript of Kushner’s testimony to the committee, which was released Friday. was added in bold in Scavino’s email.
Kushner forwarded the request and discussed the email chain with the president’s son Eric Trump, Trump campaign lawyers Alex Cannon and Justin Clark, and Sean Dollman, the chief financial officer of the Trump 2020 campaign.
“Guys – can we do it ASAP please?” Kushner begged.
“Both are web URLs [for the phrases] has been registered. Save America PAC was registered on October 23 of this year. What did the campaign do?” Eric Trump responded.
Dollman explained: “‘Save America PAC’ has been taken/registered, just confirmation. But we can still file for ‘Save America.'”
Kushner’s response in the transcript: “Go.”
The email request was issued before the Save America PAC was created, so the effort appears to have been successful.
