Top TikTok Challenges of 2022

It cannot be denied that the short video app TikTok has taken the world by storm and mostly through viral challenges.

Bizcommunity reported that the platform entered 2022 on a high note, having reached the benchmark of 1 billion users by the end of 2021.

This change also led to the rise of subcultures like #BookTok and #FinTok, among others highlighted in the #YearOnTikTok platform review which aims to shine a light on the hottest and most happening TikTok trends of the past year.

After a recap of the best TikTok trends of the year, we take a look at the biggest and most memorable challenges of the year with the help of Filmora, Shane Barker and Briefly.

1. ‘In 2022, I Will’

As people set their intentions for the year ahead with ‘In 2022 I Will’, New Year’s resolutions spread like wildfire with the TikTok challenge garnering millions of posts ahead of the 2021/22 New Year celebrations.

2. The challenge of learning something new

With the intention of making changes in the New Year comes the intention to pick up some new skills and this idea is TikTokers with “learn something new: hashtag.

It also gives you plenty of opportunities to show off your skills to give others ideas about what they want to learn in the New Year.

3. Journal Challenge

A related challenge is the Journal Challenge which is not a new challenge, but has gained a lot of steam in 2022.

TikTokkers participate in this challenge by submitting manifestation videos explaining what changes they want to make in their own lives.

4. Milk Crate Challenge

Arguably one of the most dangerous challenges of the year, this challenge invites participants to balance on towers of empty milk crates arranged in a ladder shape.

Participants must climb the stairs without knocking over the crates or falling on the way. Something that happens more often than not.

The milk crate challenge caused serious injuries to many people and TikTok eventually banned the #CrateChallenge and also removed all videos tagged “#milkcratechallenge” and “#cratechallenge.”

5. Cha-Cha Slide Challenge

Cha-Cha Slide Challenge is an old dance made new using Mr. C’s 2000 song with instructions for what to do with the hands and feet.

The #ChaChaSlide challenge has become very popular among parents with babies or pet owners who move their limbs to their guides.

6. Skip the phone

The Passing the Phone challenge is this year’s opportunity to grill your friends (love, of course).

In this challenge, a group of friends will make a clip of themselves saying, “I sent a phone call to ____.” He then fills in the blanks with spicy characterizations of people in his friend group.

For example: “I sent a phone call to someone who still hasn’t seen the Harry Potter movie.”

But about this challenge, you don’t have to know what the person before you said until you all watch the full video.

Locally, we have dance challenges like Ba Straata, Hamba Wena, Tessa and #TriggerDanceChallenge that are taking over not only the country but exposing our dance style to TikTokers all over the world.
