Normally when a former Chancellor defects that’s pretty seismic but not in the case of Nadhim Zahawi. Nothing summed up the descent under Boris Johnson than his appointment of Nadhim Zahawi, a man whose tax affairs ultimately led to his resignation. I agree with Luke Tryl’s analysis.

The kindest thing I can say about this defection is that it has improved the average ethical standards and economic competence of both the Tory and Reform parties.
