The coach should be allowed to make the best decision â?? Hon. Edem Agbana on Ayew’s World Cup chances

Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Eric Edem Agbana, has weighed in on the debate surrounding Andre Ayew’s potential inclusion in Ghana’s World Cup squad, while emphasising that the final call rests with head coach Otto Addo.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Agbana made his position clear from the outset.

“I always say the coach should be allowed to make the best decision,” he stated.

However, the MP then outlined why he believes the veteran forward deserves serious consideration. The 36-year-old recently scored his first goal for Dutch side NAC Breda, showing he remains competitive at club level.

Agbana pointed to Ayew’s long-standing commitment to the national team as a significant factor. He also referenced the case of former winger Laryea Kingston, who missed both the 2006 and 2010 World Cups despite playing crucial roles in qualification.

The MP further expressed reservations about players who previously declined Ghana invitations but later seek opportunities when the team is successful.

Ayew, Ghana’s most capped player and former captain, continues to be a topic of debate as Otto Addo prepares to name his final 26-man squad for the tournament.
