Ukhozi FM’s Song of the Year feature “Ingoma Eshilisa Unyaka,” has become a mainstay in South African pop culture and people seem to be looking forward to arguing about the top song choice.
This year was no different as social media sparked arguments over which song should be at the top spot.
This year, Ukhozi FM crowns Big Nuz’ It won’t featuring DJ Yamza Song of the Year. However, most people have flooded social media with the opinion that it’s KO’s SEVEN featuring Young Stunna and Blxckie should have been number one and not number six. Others argue that King Monada should be at the top of the list.
Ukhozi FM is probably one of the largest radio stations in South Africa with a listenership of approximately 8 million listeners.
Every year, when people celebrate the New Year, they also check to see if their favorite songs from the previous year have been given the recognition they think they deserve.
Good year for KO
2022 has been a great year for musician KO whose genre-bending tracks SEVEN has dominated the charts since it was first released in August.
According to Spotify, the song claimed the title of the most streamed song in Mzansi beating popular songs like Paris by Q-Mark, Glass Animals’ Heat WaveMos’ woman It’s cloth and lost Frequency Where are you now?.
“South Africans show their best love to KO’s hit track SEVEN. This is received most happily through the heart button. ‘Likes’ are how you tell Spotify that you like a particular song, album or playlist,” the streaming service said.
On the other hand, 2022 is the year when KwaZulu-Natal music group Big Nuz makes a comeback. Sadly, that was also the year when the group lost another member when Mandla ‘Mampintsha’ Maphumulo died of a stroke at Christmas. Big Nuz now has only one surviving member, down from three members.
