Microsoft Teams May Receive Improvements for Desktop App

Microsoft Teams may get performance improvements for desktop apps that will reduce RAM and CPU usage. Users have reported issues with the Microsoft Teams desktop app using a lot of RAM on the Microsoft Teams community forum. Microsoft has confirmed in a status update that it is “working” on the issue. Teams also received other updates this month, including an offline auto-send option and the ability to include up to 10,000 users in teams across the organization.

Aside from updating the status to reflect that it will be able to solve the problem of the Teams desktop app that uses a lot of RAM, Microsoft did not reveal any other details about how to improve performance. It may take some time before Microsoft takes care of this problem.

First found in a report by WindowsLatest, the publication notes that most Microsoft Teams are not optimized for all storage configurations, and sometimes lags on devices with HDD.

Users have complained on the Microsoft Teams forum about performance issues that arise when using the app on Windows devices with less storage configuration. As per the user, the app takes up a lot of RAM even if it is not used to its full capacity.

Meanwhile, Microsoft summarized all the new updates that Team received this month in a blog post. Auto-send offline is a new feature that recognizes when Teams messages are sent or edited while users are offline. Messages are sent automatically when the user is online again.

Microsoft will also allow large teams to collaborate easily now. Global admins can create organization-wide teams with up to 10,000 members. When an organization-wide team is created, all global admins and team service administrators will be added as team owners and all active users as team members.
