Michelle and Barack Obama looks like one of the most solid and loving couples, right? Well, like a couple in a relationship, it’s not always smooth sailing between them. In fact, it was so hard for the duo that at one point the former first lady admitted that she “couldn’t stand” her husband for a whole decade!
During the round table conversation with Revolt TVtogether Kelly Rowland, they., Winnie Harlowand Tina Knowles-LawsonMichelle explained that it started when Barack was building his political career, and he mainly took care of his young children, Malia and Sasha:
“We don’t talk about the work that is required and how difficult it is even if you love the person very much, even if everything can be done correctly. Bringing two lives together is one of the most difficult things to do… People think I’m the catty one by saying this — it’s like, there were 10 years where I couldn’t stand my husband. And guess when that happened? When the kids were little. And for 10 years when we were trying to build a career and, you know, worrying about school and who’s doing what and what, I was like, ‘Ugh, this isn’t even.’ “

At Light We Carry the author added:
“And guess what? Marriage is not 50/50, never, never. Sometimes I’m 70, he’s 30. Sometimes he’s 60, 40, but guess what? 10 years – we’ve been married 30. I’ll take 10 bad years over 30 – that’s just how you look at it. And people give up. . . ‘Five years; I can’t accept it.’”
For Michele, cutting her losses was not an option. But he put in “work” amid the hard times of the relationship. He also emphasized the importance of “knowing your people,” explaining:
“Do you like him? I mean you can be mad at him but you still look at him and say, ‘I don’t like you, but I respect you.’ ‘I don’t agree with you but you are still a kind and intelligent person.’
Despite the time when Michelle hated Barack, the couple has clearly weathered the storm and is stronger than ever! He even celebrated his 30th birthday in October, with the former president writing a sweet tribute to his wife Instagram who reads:
“Miche, After 30 years, I’m not sure why you look exactly the same and I don’t. I knew I won the lottery that day – I couldn’t have asked for a better life partner. Happy birthday, honey!”
He also wrote in Twitter:
“Happy birthday to the one I love! The past 30 years have been an adventure, and I’m thankful to have you by my side. Here’s to life together. I love you @BarackObama.
