Fully attuned to the conditions, Rianne Malixi on Thursday kept her spirits up to shoot twice with a three-under-par 69 that turned a five-shot overnight deficit into a two-shot lead going into the final 18 holes at Citrus. Golf Trail Ladies Invitational in Sebring, Florida.
Clearing three birdies in a flawless round, 16-year-old Malixi will take an aggregate of 216 on Friday as she goes for the mop-up job to win her seventh of a season highlighted by three victories on the home professional women’s tour.
A victory here would also give Malixi his third title in the United States after his victory in the American Junior Golf Association. It will also set them up for two more events next month, counting the Annika Sorenstam Invitational where the best amateurs on the planet will come to Florida.
“I think consistency was a good factor for today’s round (Thursday),” Malixi said after a 34-35 effort at Sun ‘N Lake Golf Club.
“Just hitting fairways and greens is the goal, and if I have missed one of them, I just scrambled back with par,” added ICTSI-supported ace.
Morocco’s Sofia Essakali had a 71 and USA’s Megan Meng was two back with a 73 while two-round leader Vanessa Zhang of the USA ballooned to a 78.
