Professor Samuel Adu-Gyamfi, a professor of history and politics at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, says the Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has personal power that transcends party boundaries.
Professor Adu Gyamfi, speaking in the main state NPP President, said Bawumia is in control of the race because of his transcendent personality while former Trade Minister Alan Kyeremanten and other candidates are playing catch-up.
The professor made the comments during an appearance on TV3’s Midday Live on Friday, January 6.
Reacting to the resignation of the Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, Adu-Gyamfi said the Minister should have resigned earlier because Bawumia had an iron grip on the primaries.
Professor Adu-Gyamfi said the Vice President has a personality that transcends his party, adding that he has done an outstanding grassroots job.
He cited Bawumia’s visits to various churches and mosques as part of his outreach.
Recently, the Vice President was in the news for renovating the historic Tamale Central Mosque.
Bawuwmia financed the renovation of the ground floor, second and third floors, tower, penthouse, lighting, painting, and other works.
He was surrounded after returning to Tamale to officially hand over the completed project to the mosque authorities.
This shows Veep’s respect for the needs of the religious community, which is also reflected in the time when he is a special guest in many church programs, all of which certainly informs the Professor’s analysis.
Professor Samuel Adu-Gyamfi is the first social historian of medicine trained from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi-Ghana.
He lectures in the Department of History and Political Studies at the same university. He is currently Head of History and Political Studies at KNUST.
