Myles Powell flaunts his will as Dragons find their way to a Game 7

There was pride on the face of Myles Powell as he walked into the Smart Araneta Coliseum press room after a performance that gave the Bay Area Dragons one last chance to end the guest participation in the PBA with the championship.

“This is what we do, man!” Powell shouted in front of cell phone cameras from media members as he shrugged off boos after what started as preparations for another Barangay Ginebra coronation ended with the Dragons winning, 87-84, on Wednesday.

And as most of the 22,000 fans, a mix of celebrities, politicians and ordinary citizens, headed out after Ginebra failed to take its first crack at the Commissioner’s Cup crown, Powell and coach Brian Goorjian shared a hug.

Goorjian praised Powell, who scored 29 points after being activated for the Dragons’ crucial game despite being sidelined with a foot injury.

“The guy sitting next to me is not in a position to walk like that. Of course he is,” Goorjian said as he and Powell took the podium.

Goorjian and Powell aren’t just tired, they’re feeling happy that the Bay Area won even though the visitors from Hong Kong faced a hostile environment.

And the reward for going through it: A Game 7 to remember is at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan, where the attendance can double or triple the size of what the Big Dome accommodated in Game 6.

“Just being there with my brother and the will to win,” Powell said. “I know what I want for the team. If I can’t bring it, I won’t hit the floor.

“Coach (Goorjian) has sacrificed for us and it’s my turn to sacrifice, and that’s what I went out there and did today,” he added.
