Roadmap For Registration Of Ghanaians Abroad Ready | General News

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has indicated its readiness to begin the registration of Ghanaians outside the country to the National Identity Register (NIR).

The Authority has been designed in collaboration with the Identity Management System II Limited (IMS II) and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration (MoFARI) led by the Acting Director General of the Ministry, Ambassador Ramses Joseph Cleland has formed a joint committee. as part of the preparations to begin the registration of Ghanaians abroad.

Sections 4(1)(a) and 7(1)(a) of the National Identification Authority (NIA) Act, 2008 (Act 750) mandate the NIA to register Ghanaians residing in or outside this country to the NIR.

The official will use the Ghana mission abroad as the registration center and the mission officer as the official registration officer as defined in Sections 15 and 21 of the Act, every post made on social media by Prof. Ken Attafuah, NIA boss.

NIA has since last year collaborated with MoFARI to develop a road map for the smooth implementation of the programme. Therefore the meeting was led by Amb. Ramses should perfect the road map for the implementation of diaspora registration.

Key components of the roadmap include Training of Mission staff on the registration process, Deployment of Mobile Registration Work Stations (MRW) to various Missions abroad,
Public Education and Publicity, End-to-end Network Configuration and testing, Registration and Pilot Launch.

The NIA assures Ghanaians that more details will be provided as and when approved by the NIA Governing Council, MoFARI, and the NIA Oversight Ministry, Ministry of Home Affairs.
