Villarreal shock Real Madrid in LaLiga
Real Madrid lost to Villarreal who deservedly got three points at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
After a first half dominated by the home side, Villarreal took the lead shortly after the break when a mistake by Ferland Mendy gave the ball to Gerard Moreno on the edge of the area and he left to Yeremi Pino to beat Thibaut Courtois.
Real were level before the hour mark when a penalty was given for an accidental handball from Juan Foyth in the box and Karim Benzema converted.
Another spot-kick proved to be the winner as just four minutes later, Foyth’s ball was handled by a falling David Alaba and Gerard Moreno scored the crucial goal.
Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr both had chances to equalize in the closing stages, but Villarreal were able to hold on for a win that moved them level with Atletico Madrid in fourth place while Real still trail leaders Barcelona on goal difference.
