RTI Commission fines Keta Municipal Assembly GH¢60,000

Citinewsroom.com reports that it has sought information on three contracts and separate committee decisions that were made unilaterally without asking for a public meeting of the municipality.

However, the municipal assembly refused the requested information, and on top of that, failed to answer the questions of the RTI commission.

“The application was dated March 17, 2022 and received by the Commission on April 1, 2022. It is against the Keta Municipal Assembly (“The Respondent”), which failed and / or refused to release certain information requested by the applicant. in exercising its rights under Article 21(1)(f) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and Section 18 of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989).

“It is the Petitioner’s complaint that in a letter dated September 7, 2021, he requested from the Respondent through the Secretary, the following information: ‘1. I am writing to request whether the Keta Municipal Assembly has granted permission to SPBU GOIL, Keta under Section 93 of the Government Act Local, Act 936 (2016)’” part of the determination of the RTI Commission said, as quoted by citinewsroom.com.

The petitioner, Gilbert Komla Kekli welcomed the decision of the commission and asked other agencies not to deny the information of legitimate citizens.
