The Sokoto Division of the Court of Appeal has reinstated Dauda Lawal as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Zamfara State.
The high court sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State, earlier quashed the primacy that produced Mr. Lawal.
The judge, Aminu Bappa – Aliyu, ruled that the PDP has no gubernatorial candidate in the state.
In its ruling, the appeals court on Friday set aside the Federal High Court’s ruling.
In a ruling by Muhammad Shuaibu and two other panel members, the court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept Lawal as the PDP governorship candidate in Zamfara State for the 2023 general election.
Reacting to the judgment, Mr. Lawal, in a statement by the media office, described the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Sokoto “as a victory for democracy, the good people of Zamfara State.
“The judgment of the Court of Appeal is a victory not only for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but also for all Zamfara citizens who want good governance.

“People are celebrating my appeal court judgment because they are confident that under my leadership, Zamfara State will be a point of reference for new ideas, determination, dynamism and endless possibilities,” the statement said.

In September, after a former member of the federal parliament, Ibrahim Shehu, challenged Mr. Lawal’s election, the Federal High Court in Gusau annulled his election.
Another primary election was held by the party and Mr. Lawal was re-elected after he called on other contestants to join him for the success of the party.
But Mr. Shehu said he was not satisfied with the conduct of the recent primaries and took Mr. Lawal and the PDP to court, admitting the conduct of the recent primaries violated the state’s electoral guidelines.
