MegaCast production returns for CFP national title game

For nine consecutive years, ESPN will show the College Football Playoff National Championship Presented by AT & T using state-of-the-art technology and by deploying the network’s best innovations for the presentation of TCU vs. Georgia on January 9. 7:30 pm ET.

ESPN’s main broadcast will headline the MegaCast production, as ESPN offers 12 different presentations of the CFP National Championship Game on the ESPN platform. College football’s dramatic finals from SoFi Stadium will be available in more than 160 countries on ESPN’s linear and digital platforms.

Innovation Reigns Supreme in the Main ESPN Telecast

SoFi Stadium will be ESPN’s innovation hub for Monday’s Championship, including about 100 cameras providing every angle of college football’s biggest night. Advanced technologies include:

• AllCam capture the entire field, allowing isolated shots on any player and activity on the field at any time.
• Pylon Camera Kab in each corner of the end zone with the back line pylons now have the ability to pan, tilt and zoom – covering more of the end zone than ever before.
• Skycam show the action from above the field.
• Display in the field through a camera mounted above the officer’s cap.
• Line-to-Gain will feature a cam pylon in the first row down (low angle), which is important in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
• Virtual reality graphics which spans the entire field and is visible through several cameras simultaneously.

ESPN’s camera complement will include dedicated cameras on TCU head coach Sonny Dykes and Georgia head coach Kirby Smart at all times, as well as unique camera placements that provide a team view as they enter the field. The Goodyear Blimp will provide aerial photos of Los Angeles and SoFi Stadium.

More than 100 microphones will be placed throughout the stadium, capturing the sound of the game and the atmosphere of the crowd, enhancing the telecast of the game.

Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit Claim Ninth National Championship Together; Holly Rowe and Molly McGrath Return to Report from the Sidelines for a Second Straight Season

Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit will call the ninth CFP National Championship together, celebrating close to 27. College football season as a commentary team. Journalist Holly Rowe (Georgia) and Molly McGrath (TCU) will provide news and insight from the sidelines, as McGrath and Rowe return to ESPN broadcasts for the second year in a row. Rowe reported on ESPN Radio broadcasts during the championship’s first six years.

ESPN Rules Analyst Bill Lemonier and sports injury analyst Marty Jaramillo will also cover the Championship on Saturday. Former Big Ten referee Lemonnier is a veteran of several marquee assignments, including several prestigious bowl games, while Jaramillo is finishing his rookie season with ESPN.

ESPN’s Ninth National Championship MegaCast Hosted by Field Pass with The Pat McAfee Show Presented by Mercedes-Benz

For the first time since 2019, the MegaCast fan favorite Field Pass back to the National Championships on ESPN2. Field Pass with The Pat McAfee Show Presented by Mercedes-Benz will offer entertaining, free commentary from the CFP National Championship Game, anchored by Pat McAfee, which will roam the sidelines of SoFi Stadium. McAfee will call the action from a unique vantage point, combined by AJ Hawk, Darius Butler and “Boston” Connor Campbellas well as a rotation of ESPN analysts, notable personalities, and celebrities throughout the game.

ESPN’s MegaCast production includes four additional presentations on linear platforms, five more offerings available on the ESPN App and a 4K feed.

Command center on ESPNU presents a multi-angle presentation with player and team statistics. The telecast will feature four main video feeds including key broadcasts from ESPN, Skycam and shots of each head coach during the broadcast.

MegaCast mainstay AT&T 5G SkyCast back to ESPNEWS this year, highlighting the popular view of the top of the action and behind the offense in the best play. This unique angle has long been one of ESPN’s alternative viewing options and is available on multiple games each week. Replays will be shown every time the main telecast shows replays, while not losing sight of Skycam. In addition, the SkyCam viewing options will also be available in 4K on Comcast, DirecTV, YouTube TV and Verizon.

Spanish-language telecasts (ESPN Deportes) and Hometown Radio (SEC Network and ESPN App) remain MegaCast staples, with All-22 viewpoints also available digitally.

• Hometown radio (SEC Network and ESPN App): Fans can listen to each team’s local radio broadcast, with an audio feed synchronized with ESPN’s presentation. This MegaCast feed is available in conjunction with Georgia Bulldog Sports Network Powered by LEARFIELD and Horned Frogs Sports Network Powered by LEARFIELD and WBAP.

CFP Championship Game Pre-Game and Halftime Marching Bands on the ESPN App

New in 2023, the halftime marching band show at the College Football Playoff National Championship will be available on the ESPN App. The sights and sounds of TCU’s Horned Frog Marching Band and Georgia’s Redcoat Marching Band will stream live through the All-22 display.
