WATCH: Tshwane on high alert amid floods in parts of the city



Tshwane emergency services are on high alert after flooding in parts of the city on Thursday evening, as the province expects more rain on Friday.

Spokesman Charles Mabaso told SAFM that two cars were trapped in the flood in different parts of the city. Fortunately, the occupants of the vehicle survived.

Motorists have been warned not to enter Pretoria North via Rachel De Beer Street from the CBD as the road is flooded.

This is another disruptive rain expected in Gauteng early Friday morning.

More rain is coming

Meanwhile, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level 9 orange warning for disruptive rainfall in northeastern KwaZulu-Natal and eastern Mpumalanga on Friday.

Residents in the area should expect road flooding, property damage, widespread landslides, rockfalls and soil erosion, the weather service warned.

A level 4 yellow warning for disruptive rain has also been issued in south west KwaZulu-Natal.

Residents in Alfred Nzo, OR Tambo DMs, Elundini, Sakhisizwe, Engcobo, Intsika Yethu, Mbhashe and Mnquma Local Municipalities of the Eastern Cape should also expect heavy rain on Friday.

The Eastern Cape Transport Department is urging motorists in the area to exercise caution when driving on the roads between Ngcobo and Mthatha, Ngcobo to Dutywa, and Ngcobo to Elliot.

“Our roads are wet, and driving conditions are very dangerous. Please be aware of stones and water falling on the road. Please approach with caution,” urged the department on Thursday.
