Firmino leans towards Liverpool extension

Sky Sports News chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol said that Roberto Firmino could stay at Liverpool beyond this season.

The striker’s current deal expires in the summer. It is believed that Firmino will have to accept a reduced deal if he is to remain at Anfield.

The 31-year-old has also been the subject of Saudi Arabia, but not Al Nassr – Cristiano Ronaldo’s new club.

Liverpool are interested in Nunes but the summer is more likely

Liverpool remain interested in it wolf midfielder Matthew Nunes – but Sky Sports News have been told they are more likely to pursue a deal in the summer rather than January.

The Reds want to strengthen in midfield but will make sure they sign the right players, even if it means waiting until the end of the season.

Nunes is one of the midfielders being monitored by Jurgen Klopp’s club and there was interest in the player before he joined Wolves from Sporting Lisbon last summer, while Manchester City have also been tracking him.

There are reports that Liverpool will try to sign him for £44m however Sky Sports News have been told this fee is unrealistic, with Wolves worth more than £50m.

There has certainly not been an approach from Liverpool to Wolves this month to sign Nunes.

Klopp: Nobody came to me and asked me to leave the club

New Liverpool striker Cody Gakpo could feature in the FA Cup this weekend after being left out of the squad for Monday night’s defeat at Brentford.

Jurgen Klopp has not ruled out a re-signing now that the window is open but it now looks unlikely and the manager admits he needs to raise money before more deals can be done.

“Now I’m here for seven years and every window is almost the same; we talk about it as if money doesn’t play a role,” said Klopp.

“It’s not like this. We sign an amazing player like Cody Gakpo and then we read about the next player.

“We can’t play like Monopoly, we can’t throw it and we can’t.

“That’s a big part of my philosophy, working with faith and believing in the players we have and not constantly telling them we need more players in that position.

“Obviously you need real quality in all positions and two teams at the same level that can play, but people are surprised when they say they can’t start spending money.

“If there is something we can do and that means the right players and the financial situation, we will do it.”

Asked if any fringe players could be dropped, he added: “It’s a different situation, I don’t know.

“No one has come to me and asked me to leave the club, if that’s the case I will listen but no one has come yet.”

Klopp: Gakpo’s arrival ‘has no impact’ on Firmino’s future

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Liverpool are currently in talks Roberto Firmino about his future – but admitted that the signing of Cody Gakpo had “no influence” on the club’s decision, according to Mirror.

The Reds announced the arrival of the Netherlands international on Wednesday after hijacking Manchester United’s pursuit of the 23-year-old.

Gakpo’s arrival has raised question marks over Firmino’s future, but the 31-year-old is out of contract in the summer.

When asked about Firmino’s future and whether Gakpo’s arrival will have an impact, Klopp said: “No. We have spoken with Bobby. From my point of view, I want him to stay. It has no impact.

“If it affects Bobby, you should ask him.”

Gakpo joined Liverpool

Liverpool have completed the signing of the Dutch striker Cody Gakpo from PSV.

The Reds have paid between £35m and £45m for the striker, who scored three goals in five appearances at the World Cup in Qatar.

Gakpo, who underwent a medical on Merseyside on Wednesday evening, is understood to have signed a deal until 2028.
